50 Car Dashboard Warning Lights Explained: What They Mean and What to Do (Guide)part 2

6. ABS Warning Light

The ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) warning light usually displays the letters ABS inside a circle.

What it means:
  • ABS sensor failure
  • Damaged ABS control module
  • Faulty wheel speed sensor
What to do:

Your normal brakes should still work, but the anti-lock feature may not. Drive carefully, especially on wet or slippery roads, and have the system checked soon.

7. Tire Pressure Warning Light (TPMS)

This light looks like a horseshoe with an exclamation mark inside.

What it means:
  • One or more tires have low air pressure
  • A puncture may be developing
  • TPMS sensor malfunction
What to do:

Check all tire pressures using a pressure gauge. Inflate them to the manufacturer's recommended pressure. Inspect for nails or leaks if a tire keeps losing air.

8. Airbag Warning Light

This symbol shows a person sitting with a circle representing the airbag.

What it means:
  • Airbag system fault
  • Seat belt pretensioner problem
  • Crash sensor malfunction
What to do:

Have the vehicle inspected as soon as possible. The airbags may not deploy properly in an accident.

9. Seat Belt Reminder

This warning reminds the driver or passengers to fasten their seat belts.

What to do:

Fasten all seat belts before driving. Wearing a seat belt greatly reduces the risk of serious injury during a collision.

10. Low Fuel Warning Light

This light looks like a fuel pump.

What it means:
  • Your fuel tank is almost empty.
What to do:

Refuel as soon as possible. Frequently driving with very little fuel can shorten the life of your fuel pump.

11. Power Steering Warning Light

This symbol usually shows a steering wheel with an exclamation mark.

What it means:
  • Electric power steering fault
  • Low power steering fluid (on hydraulic systems)
What to do:

Steering may become much heavier. Drive carefully and have the steering system checked immediately.

12. Traction Control Warning Light

This symbol shows a car with skid marks behind it.

What it means:
  • The traction control system is actively preventing wheel spin.
  • If the light stays on, the system may have a fault.
What to do:

If it flashes briefly on slippery roads, the system is working normally. If it remains on continuously, have it inspected.
